Young Thug’s New Song Calls Someone a ‘Rat,’ & Some Think It’s Gunna
Young Thug seemingly addresses Gunna on his new song, “Money on Money.” Thug’s new Future-featuring track references people being very talkative to authorities.
“These fuck n***as tellin’ for nothin’, and I gotta be the one callin’ ‘em friends,” he raps on “Money on Money.”
Thug later raps, “Brother, you a rat (My brother)” on the same track, followed by “Twin, you a rat, you smoked, uh.”
The combination had many observers believing that Thugger was referring to his one-time codefendant.
Thug addressed his relationship with Gunna in a recent interview with GQ. When asked how their relationship is now, Thug laughed and said, “I don’t know.”
Though Thug claims not to know the state of the pair’s relationship now, he did have an idea about it last year when he wrote, “Gunna stop acting like we friends on the internet, I don’t know you my guy,” on X.
Many observers date tension in Thugger and Gunna’s relationship to the latter’s 2022 Alford plea in the YSL RICO case. An Alford plea is one where the accused person pleads guilty while maintaining their innocence. Gunna has said repeatedly that his plea did not involve any cooperation.
“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” said Gunna via a statement in December of that year.
Gunna’s lawyer backed him up at the time.
“Gunna did not snitch to get out of jail,” Sadow wrote. “He has said nothing and is not cooperating. His plea statement cannot be used in court against any other defendant. So please stop spreading lies.”
Thug isn’t the only artist with a difficult relationship with Gunna. Lil Baby clarified their lack of friendship during an interview with the Breakfast Club. “We ain’t got no relationship,” he said matter-of-factly.
