Teddi Gold drops carbonated visuals for “Thought Bubbles” [Video Premiere]
Is there a more apt name for a pop song than “Thought Bubbles”?
That’s precisely what Teddi Gold is trying to burst on her fizzy single, which she premieres the visuals for today. “Thought Bubbles” is the latest banger from Gold, an LA-based pop songstress whose “Figure It Out” track previously graced the pages of EARMILK.
Upon first listen, “Thought Bubbles” ticks all the boxes you want in a pop record: glossy vocals, alluring concept, an effervescent soundscape that includes beatboxed bubble sounds and a thumping bass. But the emotional stakes are deceptively higher than your average bubblegum record. Gold’s desire to “pop your thought bubbles and read your mind” is less about romantic longing or personal gain than it is illuminating the struggles that our loved ones often keep under wraps, the clandestine issues that inhibit true intimacy.
Gold is the rare artist who can pack such delicate subject matter in funfetti and bubble wrap.
The video for “Thought Bubbles” features squiggly animation from accomplished multidisciplinary artist Zohar Dvir. Dvir’s interest in philosophy and psychoanalysis, and her off-kilter funny bone, informs the video’s playfulness and moody undertones. Gold’s cartoon pet cat adds a cute touch to the video as well, and there’s of course plenty of bubble popping.
