Rick Ross Calls Nipsey Hussle ‘Way Advanced’ in 39th Birthday Tribute: ‘He Was a Legend’

Rick Ross took a quick break from his “bawse” lifestyle last week to salute late rapper and entrepreneur Nipsey Hussle on what would’ve been his 39th birthday.

On Thursday (Aug. 15), Ross filmed an Instagram reel dedicated to his “A Hunnit a Show” collaborator, also giving a shout-out to The Marathon Clothing team that continues to hold down Nipsey’s legacy.

“Today, my boy Nipsey Hussle would have been 39 years old. The marathon continues,” Ross said in the clip below.

In reference to Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, and “the whole TMC family,” Ross added, “It’s not many people who woulda held that empire up and made sure it elevated the way it has, man.”

“I’m sure Nip, he’s smiling,” Ross continued. “Bruh’s smiling. He was a legend, he was way advanced, way too advanced for lame n****s, slow n****s. That boy was on some other shit 10 years ago. So you know what it is, man.”

Ross concluded by encouraging “everybody” to stream Nipsey’s 2010 mixtape The Marathon, although Ross hopped on multiple tracks with the Los Angeles native during his lifetime, including Stalley’s “Fountain of Youth.”

Ahead of Nipsey’s birthday, Blacc Sam sat down with Big Boy TV for a nearly two-hour conversation about his brother, also detailing his March 2019 murder. The rapper was fatally shot by the since-convicted Eric Holder Jr. outside of the now-closed Marathon Clothing store.

While Sam hoped that Nipsey would make it to the hospital in time to survive, he admitted that he nearly lost hope after his brother was pronounced deceased.

“I was confident bro was going to be good. Just couldn’t understand it. It was like the Twilight Zone after that,” he told radio host Big Boy around the 1:14:00 mark of the video below. “Everything I believed in–my faith was shattered.”
