Rauw Alejandro Says He’s Aiming for 2028 Super Bowl Halftime Show: ‘Our Culture Is Global’
Rauw Alejandro seems to have his sights set on succeeding Bad Bunny as one of the next Super Bowl Halftime performers.
In a post shared on Tuesday (Sept. 30), the 32-year-old Puerto Rican singer celebrated Bad Bunny’s milestone while sharing his own ambitions.
“What was once impossible for a Latino and even more so in ‘urban’ is now a reality,” he wrote in Spanish, translated to English. “The Bunny at the Super Bowl 🫶🏼 The doors are open and our culture is global, the world is listening to us!! ✨
“Maybe, perhaps 💭if there’s health… 2028 will be Rauw who continues that story. PR in the house, damn it 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷”
While it’s unclear why he singled out 2028 instead of the year prior, its fitting for Rauw to be considered to headline a performance on the “world’s biggest stage.”
Earlier this year, the four-time Grammy nominee hit the road with his blockbuster Cosa Nuestra Tour which broke records in the U.S. and became one of the first Latin artists to perform three consecutive sold-out nights at Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome, as well as multiple-night runs in Chicago, New York, and Miami.
The tour also played back-to-back sold-out shows in his native Puerto Rico, and embarked on a successful European leg.
The setlist featured music from his Cosa Nuestra album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Latin Albums chart and No. 6 on the Billboard 200. A prequel to the album that arrived last week, Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0.
Rauw’s 2020 debut album, Afrodisíaco, went 6x RIAA Latin Platinum, and each of his subsequent albums—Vice Versa, Saturno, Playa Saturno, and Cosa Nuestra—has been noted as one of the most genre-defining and boundary-pushing projects in Latin music. He has also collaborated with major artists, including Pharrell Williams, Shakira, and Selena Gomez.
On Sunday (Sept. 28), Bad Bunny was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, set for Feb. 8, 2025, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
In a statement, Jay-Z praised the Puerto Rican superstar, saying, “What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”
“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” said Bad Bunny in his own bilingual statement. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Go and tell your grandma, that we’ll be the Halftime Show of the Super Bowl.”
