Pusha T Say Clipse’s New Album Is Done: ‘It’s in My Phone’

Clipse‘s long-awaited return album is finally done — according to Pusha T.

Push broke the news during an interview at the Saint & Citizen’s “Saint Sessions Live” event at Art Basel in Miami. While onstage, he gave some details about what listeners can expect from the group’s upcoming LP.

“There are no duos in rap today and lyric driven hip-hop lives,” he explained. “You will get to see how hip-hop and street hip-hop matures.”

“It’s been 15 years since we dropped an album….I just think that people are going to witness greatness,” he continued. “This is a chemistry, this is a brotherhood, and when I say that, I mean Pharrell as well. He produced it from top to bottom.

Push then shared the big news with the audience: the project is complete. “We take long, we always take long,” he started. “People be mad but its’ okay because it’s done I promise you that it’s done. It’s in my phone.”

This summer, Push and Malice provided some details about the album in an interview with Vulture. “I think the album shows the supreme maturation of a rap duo,” he said. “I think this is where you get the difference between taste and filler. This music is curated. This is a high taste-level piece of work.”

“This is smart basketball,” added Malice. “It’s fundamentals. And not only that, it’s authenticity. It’s what rap should look like if you’re real about your craft, real about your experience, real about your storytelling. It’s bringing the fans along to see the growth, not trying to fit in or fabricate.”

While at “Saint Sessions Live,” Push also gave his opinion on Kendrick Lamar amidst his beef with Drake. “I think that Kendrick is a lyricist and a lyricist that talks to your soul.,” said Push. “You can be clever, you can say cute things, you can do things in cadences and so on and so forth, but the truth really hurts and the truth cuts deep.”

Push also touched on Kendrick’s impact — which is making Drake turn to courts to help him. “I think what Kendrick was doing was really talking to his soul,” explained Push. “I believe that would cause you to tap out, that would cause you to sue, that would cause you to do a lot of things. It’s crazy.”

Back in April, when asked if Pusha T or Clipse would be releasing new music this year, Pusha confirmed: ‘I would 100% bet that you’re going to get new music from one of those entities that you just named,” he told Complex’s Jordan Rose. ‘It’s going to be a win-win situation.”
