Peach Tree Rascals share jazz-inspired pop record with ‘Fumari’ [Video]

The Peach Tree Rascals have been on an exceptional run this year, releasing several terrific and tasteful tracks like “I’m Sorry,” “Deer,” and “Things Won’t Go My Way.” The group prides themselves on being a DIY band, integrating sounds from multiple genres including R&B, hip-hop, and jazz. They’ve embraced the bedroom pop wave, finding new ways to blur genres together into tracks that each have their own personality. 

In their latest effort, “Fumari,” the Rascals share a bright, poppy sound coupled with dizzying rap flows. The instrumental opens with acoustic guitar chords, expanding to feature funky bass lines and horns in a track that is the most jazz-inspired of the band’s catalog. As for the song’s meaning, the lyrics ooze themes of optimism like chasing your dreams and accepting life’s highs and lows.

Originating from San Jose, CA, the Rascals got their start in high school and eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue music. The group is a five-piece collective, comprised of produce Dominic Pizano, vocalists Issac Pech, Tarrek Abdel-Khaliq, Joseph Barros, and creative director Jorge Olazaba.

Tarrek had his own input regarding the band’s new release: “Fumari’ is about chasing after something more… whether it’s a feeling with a drug, a memory of the past, or a goal in the future. It’s about wanting to escape the current moment to a time or event that’s more exciting. We used to feel these feelings a lot back home in San Jose before we officially started making music. It was all about thinking back to happy times or looking ahead to drive our ambitions.”

In typical fashion, the group released a colorful, casual music video for “Fumari.” The video provides a visual look into the group’s carefree and lighthearted approach to music and life.
