Kaytranada Denies Criticizing Beyoncé Over Payment Dispute: ‘I Love That Girl’
Kaytranada denies having issues with Beyoncé.
The Canadian DJ and producer was interviewed in a Vulture profile that published on Friday (August 30), where he revealed misunderstandings involving the teams for Drake and Beyoncé.
Kaytra shared that while he played a remix of Bey’s 2022 single “Cuff It” at her BEYLA show last year, her team offered low compensation for the song’s rights. The Grammy-winner would decline the offer.
“Sometimes people don’t see your worth and how important you are,” he said. “I know what I mean to people.”
But some members of the BeyHive considered the Timeless artist’s comment to be shady, with one individual mentioning Kaytra on X, writing, “not you dragging Beyonce cause you’re mad. weird asl it’s always a black man.”
Although Kaytra would delete his response, he reposted the mention and wrote, “Mannnn I didn’t drag her that’s just what happened. The remix didn’t get a release and it is what it is but later that year I opened [for] her on tour AND on her Bday on top of that. Now what? I love that girl & y’all ain’t gonna make me look like I ain’t rocking with her.”
Beyoncé would drop select Renaissance remixes, including a “Break My Soul” EP, “Break My Soul (the Queens Remix)” and “America Has a Problem” featuring Kendrick Lamar, who also performed at BEYLA.
Kaytra also claimed that he was approached to produce Drake’s 2022 album, Honestly, Nevermind, but due to a non-fanboy response, the rapper’s team didn’t move forward with him.
“Was I supposed to be like, ‘Oh my God, for real? Drake?’ I’m not like that,” Kaytra said.
