Juliet Ariel nurses pain in “Wish You Were Here” featuring Laylizzy [Video]

French singer, songwriter/ producer Juliet Ariel pops up on our radar with her single "Wish You Were Here" which sees her teaming with Mozambique artist Laylizzy. The R&B/afro-pop-infused record deals with the convoluted feelings that come with being in love with the wrong person.

Bolstered by the hypnotic strings and subtle pads and synths, Ariel delivers an angelic and sublime performance as she reminisces on the good times while nursing the pain she felt after the heartbreak resulting in an emotional see-saw situation. Laylizzy comes through with a reflective bi-lingual verse about betrayal and regrets while fusing Portuguese and English in a seamless fashion.

The visual directed by Juliet Ariel and Leon Seenandan deals with themes of loneliness, melancholy, and nostalgia. It makes use of moody lighting and close-up shots of Ariel as she lays in her bed crying and on the flip side we see Laylizzy pacing in his own space and showing regret for his past transgressions. It was shot on different sides of the world. Juliet’s scenes were shot at a private beach in Sydney Australia during the lockdown and Laylizzy’s scenes were shot in Mozambique.

Juliet Ariel was born in D.R. Congo and is of African and Portuguese descent but raised in Paris, France. She released her debut self-produced single “Take Me With You” and recently moved to Australia to further her music career. She is also into fashion, skincare and currently working on her new EP.
