Jessica Simpson Says She Hasn’t ‘Wanted or Touched Alcohol Since October 2017’ After Being Told to ‘Stop Drinking’
Jessica Simpson made time to correct an Instagram troll after they randomly accused her of being alcohol-dependent, Page Six reports.
“I haven’t wanted or touched alcohol since October 2017 and it has been the best decision I’ve made for myself and for my family,” Simpson wrote on Instagram in response to someone telling her to “stop drinking” in the comments section of one of her recent posts.
“Thank you for your concern, but you have me very misunderstood,” she added. “Sending love your way.”
The “With You” singer has long spoken about her sobriety journey, most famously in her 2020 memoir Open Book. In the tell-all, Simpson wrote that her years of drinking and pill addiction began when she dated musician John Mayer from 2006 to 2007. It was during their brief relationship that Simpson had faced issues with her body image.
After Simpson responded to the comment, the Instagram user apologized for the “misunderstanding.”
Last November, Simpson celebrated six years of sobriety by resharing an old photo of herself, calling the image “an unrecognizable version” of who she is today.
“There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic,” she wrote in the caption.
“The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage. The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power. Today I do.”
