Ice Spice Brings Travis Scott, Gunna, and Central Cee Into Her World on Debut Album ‘Y2K!’

Travis Scott, Gunna, and Central Cee all make appearances on Ice Spice’s just-released Y2K!, the four-time Grammy nominee’s debut album.

The run-up to the 10-track, 23-minute release saw fans being given several key cuts in advance, including album opener “Phat Butt” and the Sean Paul-sampling “Gimmie a Light.” As previously reported, the latter was brought to life in an Evil Twins-directed music video featuring a familiar pink Range Rover formerly owned by Cam’ron. While no official public statements were made with regards to the memorable car’s video appearance, a source close to the production later confirmed to Complex that the vehicle in question was indeed the same one once used by Cam in his “Get Em Girls” and “Killa Cam” videos.

The Y2K! journey began in earnest at the top of the year, with “Think U the Shit (Fart)” spurring lyrical speculation-related headlines and ultimately peaking at No. 37 on the Hot 100. In fact, said speculation was rampant before the song even received an official release, thanks in no small part to its core lyrical tease aimed at an unspecified rival.

During a recent conversation with Zane Lowe for New Music Daily on Apple Music 1, 24-year-old Spice pointed to her mother as a key source of inspiration for the new album. In Ice’s own words, she was fortunate enough to “see her really embody the Y2K aesthetic in its truest form.” The title itself, meanwhile, came about, at least in part, due to Spice’s stated aversion to going the “super long phrase” route.
