Gucci Mane Drops Almost All Artists From His 1017 Records Label
Some big changes are coming to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records label.
Gucci Mane posted a video today (Oct. 18) saying that he’s dropping just about everybody from the label as he shifts direction—partly due to challenges on the business side.
“When I’m looking at my P&L, and me being a businessman, I’m thinking that I’m going to have to release almost all my artists except for Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano,” Gucci explained. He emphasized that his decision wasn’t made lightly: “This is a decision I didn’t want to make.”
While he initially made it seem like he was contemplating making this decision, he then made it clear that he’d already made it. “Today, I reached out to all of my artists, to their lawyers, and let them know that they’re free to take their talents elsewhere,” he said.
In the midst of this huge shakeup, Gucci Mane, shockingly, revealed that he’s still searching for fresh artists. “I’m still looking for new talent to pair with Pooh and Foo — and that’s where I’m going to put my focus,” he added as a footnote.
Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records label has had it pretty rough over the last few years. Back in 2022, one of its artists, Enchanting, died of a drug overdose. Nearly two years later, another rapper, Big Scarr, passed away due to the same reason.
In addition to untimely deaths, 1017 Records artists have encountered various legal issues. Both Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano are currently incarcerated and serving five year sentences. HotBoy Wes just got sentenced to 15 years in prison earlier this year, and Mac Critter got arrested for first-degree murder last January.
Earlier this year, Gucci Mane announced the launch of another record label, So Icy Millionaires. Back in July, he posted a video showing off several stacks of cash as a way of drawing artists in. “That’s what I’m willing to invest in my next superstar ’cause I’m starting a whole new label. Fresh! So Icy Millionaires,” he said to the camera. “So who you wanna join my new label, ’cause I’m looking for my next male superstar.”
There’s no word of whether Gucci Mane’s shakeup will impact his other label.
