Dawn Robinson’s Ex-Husband Offers Her a Hotel Job After Learning She’s Living in Her Car
The ex-husband of Dawn Robinson reportedly wants to help the former En Vogue member escape living out of her car.
This week, the R&B vocalist posted a vlog revealing that she’d been living in her vehicle for almost three years after two previous living arrangements went sour.
Robinson formerly lived with her parents in Las Vegas before clashing with her mother, who threw her out. After temporary homelessness, Robinson was urged by her former co-manager to return to Los Angeles. The singer said that the manager paid for her hotel stays for eight months but that he wanted to “trap” her.
Upon learning of her situation, Robinson’s ex-husband, Andre Allen, offered her a hospitality job through TMZ. The former spouses were married from 2003 to 2010, although Allen supported Robinson in her brief reunion with the remaining En Vogue members.
TMZ wrote that Allen’s decision to depart the music industry “saved his life and finances,” as he was previously a member of R&B quartet IV Xample.
Allen, who now works for Hilton Brands and is engaged, said that he loaned money to struggling music industry professionals and saw others suffer with their living circumstances to the point of dying. Allen believes that Robinson won’t be paid sufficiently as an artist and should work in a hospitality sales position using her charismatic personality.
Although Allen said he tried to help Robinson evade homelessness, the singer expressed in her vlog that she feels “free” in car living.
“This is not like, ‘Oh my God, poor Dawn, she’s living in her car and it’s terrible,'” she said in the video above. “I’m learning about who I am. I’m learning myself as a person, as a woman.”
