Daniel Keane drops defiant new track ‘icantchangeicantchange’

Fresh off the success of his summer track “Lose U,” and selling-out Waterstones book Foxes with Boxes, Canterbury-based artist Daniel Keane returns with defiant indie-pop offering “icantchangeicantchange,” written over the first COVID-19 lockdown in the UK.

Mastered by REM’s former producer, Charlie Francis, the track is a jangly slice of indie-pop heaven which delves into themes of stubbornness. Lyrically focused on self-improvement as Keane talks about bettering himself as an artist and person, and sonically–taking inspiration from the likes of boy pablo and The 1975–the anthemic song with a distinct punk riff, and trap beat is rooted in Keane’s signature warm summer soundscapes.

Full of banter and a folksy feel to his instrumentals, “icantchangeicantchange,” boasts an easy, fun vocal delivery and a psychedelic vibe to the accompanying, self-produced music video – produced by Kate Wintie & Charlie Francis- immediately catching your attention right from the opening notes. The kind of track that grows on you with each listen, it hooks listeners with its earworm melody which sticks with you right from the first listen.

Breaking into the scene in 2019 with dream-pop offering “Sainsbury’s Girl” which centered around narratives of Keane’s own anxiety as well as love in a modern British landscape, the 22-year-old artist has grown very quickly in only a year, managing to  cultivate a reputation for his unique musical style where sunny, homegrown melodies and modern, catchy rhythms have a rendezvous.

Personable, relatable and consistently delivering bangers to boot, Keane has gone from strength to strength with each release. Most recently, he garnered praise for May release “Lose U,” being described as “one to watch over the next year.” With this latest single, he has further established himself, undeniably cementing his status as a rising star.
