David Johnson Teases Working On Frank Ocean’s Directorial Debut: ‘He’s a Very Special Person’
David Johnson shared some kind words about Frank Ocean, with whom he’s working with on the singer’s directorial debut.
“He’s a very special person, and we’re working on a really special thing,” Johnson said at Sunday’s Bafta Awards.
Last month, Variety reported that Jonsson would star in Ocean’s untitled independent film, which started production in Mexico City. Any other information regarding the film, including the rest of the cast, plot details, and more, has been kept tightly under wraps.
Johnson has built a solid résumé since he made his film debut in the 2023 British rom-com Rye Lane. Following his universally applauded appearance in the film, he kept the momentum going in Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus, as well as the historical thriller Bonhoeffer. He has also been tapped to appear in the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk, and Wasteman, in which he is also serving as an executive producer.
News of Ocean making a film has been circulating as far back as 2022. There have been reports that Ocean had conversations with A24 and 2AM, and rumors have spread that Bones and All actress Taylor Russell would star in the film, but nothing has come to light regarding her involvement.
