Watch Lauryn Hill Bring Out Doechii to Perform “Doo Wop (That Thing)”
Lauryn Hill brought out Doechii at Jazz in the Gardens (JITG) Music Festival to perform “Doo Wop (That Thing)” together.
Doechii was already on the bill, but Hill surprised her audience by having her on stage for a performance of one of her most popular songs. Doechii took the lead, rapping the verses while Hill played the background and hyped her up.

After the performance, Doechii hopped on X to share her appreciation for both Hill and the moment.
“Thank you Miss Lauryn Hill. Thank you. My heart is so full. She is my hero,” wrote Doechii. “This is the greatest honor hip hop could give me. Praise God 🤎 … my entire body is vibrating with joy right now. I’ll never forget this day! EVER!”
In another post, Doechii expressed how she felt about performing with Hill prior to the show. “I never been so nervous in my life 😭 she is a QUEEN,” wrote Doechii.
Another performance that had to have been nerve-racking for Doechii was when she performed at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards last month. She crushed her show without showing nerves but received allegations that she performed a medley of Alligator Bites Never Heal songs “Catfish” and “Denial Is A River” with a “pre-recorded voice.”
“I can’t possibly get on here and say this calmly or nicely,” Doechii began. “Y’all are stupid as hell. So slow! Ahhhhh! That is my DJ’s [DJ Miss Milan] voice picking up on the lines that I can’t say because I’m doing A SOMERSAULT.”
She clarified that she performed that live while dealing with some health issues. “That entire performance was live!” She explained. “I was sick as a dog with bronchitis and the flu, performing my ass off in a straddle on top of human men.”
“[I] worked my ass off to build the stamina for that, for y’all to play in my face,” Doechii included. “I don’t lip-sync. Don’t ever fucking play with me like that. Ever!”
