Troy Ave Talks Showing Growth Over 'Street Cred' & '2 Legit 2 Quit' Video on 'The Breakfast Club'

Brooklyn's own Troy Ave made his return to The Breakfast Club for an interview touching on a multitude topics Monday (Feb. 12).

Host Charlamagne Tha God was noticeably missing from the conversation, after giving Dope Boy Troy the dubios "Donkey the Day" distinction on Feb. 2. CThaGod took to Twitter this morning writing, "I chose to sit this one out. I'm not entertaining that kind energy."

The 32-year-old has a fresh mindset on life since serving his two-month jail bid. He cites growing as an individual throughout the interview: "I'm not ignorant no more. I used to be ignorant. I didn't know no better. You can't have hood mentality and hood rules and the things you're trying to do don't have anything to do with the hood," Troy explained.

He added: "The streets is a myth. It's not real. Nowhere in the real world does the streets count. People have street cred through the ro, but their credit score is 500... People in the streets put those type rules in place to manipulate. The manipulation stagnates growth and you stay in an ignorant mind frame."

Speculation ran rampant on social media after Troy Ave dropped the animated video to "2 Legit 2 Quit" in late January, where he raps, "I’m only loyal to my fam. Middle finger from the stand. It’s either me or you." DJ Envy pressed Troy about if those lyrics meant he would testify against Daryl "Taxstone" Campbell for his role in the 2016 Irving Plaza shooting that left the Brooklyn native's bodyguard, Ronald "Banga" McPhatter, dead.

"If you're talking about your life and everything you go through, I been doing that," Ave told DJ Envy and Angela Yee. "At what point is it snitching if you're talking about yourself? I'm good because I sparked a debate. With the debate that I sparked -- not talking about my case, but just in general, eight out ten people will be like, 'I'm not going to jail for somebody else.'"

Even though Troy Ave is due in court next month for trial, the BK rapper teased a possible NYC performance date coming up. Stay tuned to Troy's social media accounts for more information.
