Trouble’s Killer Accepts Plea Deal, Reportedly Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison

Jamichael Jones, the man arrested in the killing of Atlanta rapper Trouble in June 2022, has accepted a plea deal with prosecutors.

On Friday (March 21), Fox 5 Atlanta reported that Jones accepted a negotiated guilty plea to a charge of voluntary manslaughter. He was initially charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, second-degree criminal damage to property, and family violence simple battery. As a result of the plea deal, Jones was sentenced to 20 years in prison with credit for time served.

Trouble was shot and killed after Jones broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend, whose bed the rapper was sleeping in during the break-in. Investigators said Jones saw Trouble in the bed and began assaulting his ex before the rapper attempted to stop him, which led to the shooting.

Trouble was sent to Rockdale County Piedmont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead on June 5, 2022. According to Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levette, investigators linked Jones to the shooting through surveillance cameras and witness testimony and they also visited his mother who connected deputies to her son. After some persuasion by deputies, Jones turned himself in.

“His mother was a huge resource in helping us apprehend him,” said Levette in a statement.

Jones had been in custody at the Rockdale County Jail without bail for the last three years. Jury selection was supposed to begin on Friday (March 21) ahead of the trial but Jones accepting the plea deal put a stop to that.
