Tinashe’s highly anticipated sophomore album Joyride has finally arrived today (Apr. 13) and to celebrate, the singer sat down with Billboard’s Kevan Kenney to chat about the record and collaborating with the likes of Little Dragon and Offset on it.
“I’m very thankful for all the time that it took to get to this point,” the singer says of the long-delayed LP, which was first announced back in 2015, “because this is by far and above the best version of the album.”
Speaking of her track “Stuck With Me,” which features Little Dragon, Tinashe emphasizes her desire to see more female collaborations, adding that while she is a fan of many female artists, she strongly wanted to collaborate with the Yukimi Nagano-fronted band.
“I’ve been a fan of Little Dragon, in particular – band and artist – for years and years,” she explains, revealing that she DMed them a few years ago asking about a possible collaboration. “They didn’t write back, and so I kept just like commenting on their posts time to time, liking their pics, and over the years, eventually I created the record ‘Stuck With Me’ on this album and I was like, ‘That would be perfect!’ It would be really unexpected but a really cool vibe to get them on.”
Tinashe also discusses collaborating with Offset on the track “No Drama,” telling Billboard that she was looking for a collaborator who could bring the most energy to the song, which made her think of the Migos rapper. “He has all these amazing ad-libs in his rap, the cadence of it always brings a lot of energy,” she says.
