The Weeknd Becomes First Artist to Have 21 Songs Surpass a Billion Spotify Streams
The Weeknd has topped a Spotify record he broke two months ago that has him in a club all his own.
Over the weekend, the Toronto megastar became the first artist to have 21 songs hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. The latest song to cross that mark was “Love Me Harder,” featuring Ariana Grande. The record-breaking moment came two months after The Weeknd became the artist with the most songs that crossed the billion mark.
He was initially tied with Drake at 17, but the title track from his blockbuster fourth studio album, After Hours, pushed him ahead of the 6 God with 18 songs. The songs that have already notched one billion streams include “Often,” “Reminder,” “Heartless,” “Die For You,” “The Hills,” “Call Out My Name,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” and more.
The Weeknd’s After Hours smash hit “Blinding Lights” is still the most streamed song on Spotify, with over 4.5 billion streams. In September, The Weeknd announced the title of his new album would be Hurry Up Tomorrow. The album will serve as the follow-up to his 2022 project Dawn FM, which he said is the second part of a trilogy that began with After Hours in 2020.
