Uncut Gems has generated quite the buzz prior to its nationwide release next Friday. Adam Sandler stars in the Safdie brothers' latest crime thriller, and he spoke to Vulture at the IFP Gotham Awards on Monday night about his time on set working with The Weeknd, as the pair even engage in a fight scene in the flick.
Sandler gave Abel a major co-sign. "First of all, I love that kid. He’s such a nice guy," the actor stated. "He’s so deep. He’s so into the Safdies’ other work. He was excited about doing a movie with them. We got to know each other and got closer. He was a gentleman on set]."
Sandler reflected on their brawl, as he joked about The Weeknd taking it easy on him during their fight scene. "I’m older than him. I don’t think he really wanted to fight as hard as he could," he admitted. "But then when we got cooking, he was a strong guy, a tough guy. He did a great job. He was really bold to play that part, to play himself, and not be such a lovable guy in the movie."
The former SNL cast member has even heard The Weeknd's upcoming album, and it's safe to say he's a huge fan. "That new album, my God! Did you hear that yet? It’s good," Sandler confirmed.
The Toronto native reposted his co-star's quotes to Twitter with his approval. "Love you Sandman," he wrote. The Weeknd made his triumphant return to music with a pair of singles last week in "Heartless" and "Blinding Lights."
