SZA Wants to Make ‘Children’s Music’ to Fulfill Contract Obligations

SZA has children in mind as her core audience for her next two albums.

On Saturday (Jan. 4), the Top Dawg Entertainment artist expressed in an X post that she’s ready to fulfill her contractual obligations with kid-friendly material.

“To fulfill my last 2 album requirements I think I just wanna make peaceful children’s music n get outta here,” the four-time Grammy winner wrote. “Then go be a farmer n donate the produce to underserved communities.”

Last March, the LANA artist appeared in an episode of PBS children’s program Sesame Street, so her transition into children’s music should be a breeze.

After filming the episode, SZA reposted a 2017 tweet that she made on X, formerly Twitter, seeking to get on Sesame Street, with an update that she was finally a guest on the show.

“GODS TIMING !!!” the singer-songwriter wrote at the time. “FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS AND SAY THEM OUTLOUD !!NEVER GIVE UP !! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE I BELIEVE IN YOU !!”

In 2022, SZA told Complex‘s Aria Hughes that she wants to have children “really soon,” regardless of if she’s part of a “family unit.”

“And it’s not even like I’m trying to do anything that’s groundbreaking or nontraditional or like, modern woman,” SZA continued. “I just literally feel like it’s less stressful to think about like, ‘Who’s it gonna be? Are they trustworthy? Is this person going to really love me? Is this partner material?’ Versus being like, OK, this is the doctor I know I want to deliver my kids.”

Possibly before she begins the rollout for her next album, SZA will be a co-headliner along with Kendrick Lamar on the 23-city Grand National Tour, which begins April 19 in Minneapolis and ends June 18 in Landover, Maryland.
