Snoop Dogg Says He’s Looking for Actor Who Can ‘Embody the Spirit’ of His Younger Self for Upcoming Biopic

Snoop Dogg wants the actor that will play him in an upcoming biopic to have a specific quality.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 53-year-old rapper talked about working overtime lately, splitting his time between serving as a coach for the 26th season of The Voice and the ongoing search for the leading role in his upcoming biopic.

The currently untitled Snoop Dogg biopic was first announced in 2022 with Variety reporting that the film was in development at Universal Pictures with Allen Hughes, director of Menace II Society and Dead Presidents, to direct from a script by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-writer Joe Robert Cole.

Snoop, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., told ET the search for the film’s star is ongoing.

“Actually, I’m looking for somebody who can embody the spirit when I was that young, rough around the edges—trying to discover who I was, and that to me is going to be a phenomenal actor,” he said at the 39 second mark in the video linked above.

The biopic also marks the first film to come from Snoop’s Death Row Pictures and incorporate music from his catalog, per Deadline. Snoop officially acquired Death Row Records at the beginning of 2022 from MNRK Music Group. The purchase came nearly 30 years after he joined Death Row for his debut album, Doggystyle.
