Snoop Dogg Recalls His First Interaction With Sexyy Red: ‘You Got Star Power’

Snoop Dogg is a big fan of Sexyy Red.

The hip-hop legend confirmed this just days after he and the St. Louis rapper were seen living it up at a party. The video, which was shared on Sexyy Red’s X account, showed her and Snoop dancing to her 2023 hit single “SkeeYee.”

“I’m wit snoop yal!!” she captioned the clip.

Although it’s unclear how long the two have personally known each other, Snoop revealed he was familiar with Sexyy Red’s work well before they were introduced. And he liked what he saw. He shared their first interaction during a Thursday sitdown with Vibe magazine, saying he couldn’t help but point out Sexyy Red’s it factor.

“‘You got star power. I love you,’” Snoop recalled telling the rapper. “She said, ‘Unc, you real as a motherf*cker.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I f*ck with you, cuz. We partying, having a good time.”

Snoop also let Sexyy Red know that he had nothing but love for new-school rappers, but wouldn’t hesitate to offer constructive criticism when he deems it necessary.

“I said, ‘One thing about me, I’m from the old generation but I don’t hate on y’all,’” he continued. “‘I may critique but when I see y’all, I’m gonna give you love and I’m gonna tell you face-to-face you’re doing an amazing job, here’s some things you can do better.”

Snoop made the comments during the Wednesday launch event for his Lovechild jewelry brand. The venture is a collaborative effort with Metal Alchemist and Gamma. — a music/media company led by Larry Jackson. Sexyy Red signed to Gamma. in 2023, which might explain how she crossed paths with Snoop.

“The jewelry represents me because… it accompanies me,” Snoop told reporters at the event. “It’s never too much. It’s just enough. It’s not too flamboyant, and it’s not expensive. It’s something that people can afford.”

Snoop is now gearing up for his appearance at ComplexCon 2024, where he and Dr. Dre will film a live episode of Drink Champs. The sitdown — presented by Gin & Juice by Dre and Snoop — will go down on Saturday, November 16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
