ScarLip Accuses Bank of Racial Profiling: ‘Y’all Better Talk to Me Before I Sue Y’all’
ScarLip has accused a bank of racial profiling based on a recent experience there in which the employees weren’t “comfortable” with her transaction.
The rapper recently hopped on Instagram Live to vent her frustrations with M&T Bank. When she went to make a transfer, an employee refused to do it without any explanation.
“Yo M&T bank is racist as fuck,” she said. “Why when I go to this M&T bank, I’m being profiled on some weird shit.”
“I gave you my social security card, I gave you my ID,” she continued, addressing the clerk that she dealt with. “I proved everything, why you not tryna let me make a transfer?”
ScarLip continued breaking down the situation, revealing that the clerk that she was dealing with “didn’t feel comfortable” making the transaction. After proving her identity, ScarLip claims she was asked the reason why she was making the transfer. Even though she told the clerk it was about her business, ScarLip claims the clerk needed “more than that.”
Without being able to withdraw her funds, ScarLip threatened to sue M&T Bank if she doesn’t get an explanation for why she can’t withdraw her money. She also expressed her plan to take all of it out and go to another bank.
Back in 2022, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler also dealt with a scary situation in a bank when its staff thought he was trying to rob them.
Coogler entered a bank wearing shades and a mask and passed a bank teller a note that read, “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.” The teller thought the message was suspicious and called the authorities.
Coogler spoke about the situation to Variety, confirming the situation happened and revealing that the issue had been resolved. “This situation should never have happened,” he stated. “However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”
