RZA Directs ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ Star Shameik Moore in Trailer for ‘One Spoon of Chocolate’
RZA is back in the director’s chair for the Tribeca Film Festival-premiered One Spoon of Chocolate, led by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star Shameik Moore.
The film, which this past weekend had its New York City premiere as part of the Tribeca Film Fest lineup, was shot on location in Atlanta and centers on the complications-riddled story of an ex-military convict who finds both true love and legitimate trouble after making a move out of the city. RZA, whose past film credits include 2012’s The Man With the Iron Fists starring Oscar winner Russell Crowe, also wrote and produced the new film.
“This one was self-financed,” RZA said in a recent CBS Mornings interview. “Me and my wife [Talani Rabb], we had talked about the idea of investing in a new home or making a film. She said, ‘What you wanna do?’ I said, ‘Me? I wanna make a new film.’ And she stood behind me.”
As RZA sees it, his work as a filmmaker stands as the “culmination of all my talent.”
Moore is joined in the One Spoon of Chocolate cast by Paris Jackson, RJ Cyler, Harry Goodwins, Johnell Young, Michael Harney, Rockmond Dunbar, E’myri Crutchfield, Blair Underwood, and Alabama-born Grammy winner (and recent Scorsese filmography alum) Jason Isbell.
For those who missed the Tribeca premiere, there’s still a public screening left on June 12 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Wider release details should be announced soon.
