Rasheed Chappell & Buckwild reflect on “Mass Media” [Video]
After leading the charge with the black excellence anthem “Black Owned,” the duo of Rasheed Chappell & Buckwild share their sophomore release titled “Mass Media.” Boosted by a menacing gritty backdrop courtesy of Buckwild, Chappell dives headfirst into various tragedies that occurred in 2020, from the murder of Breonna Taylor to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He also tackles systemic racism with prisons being the modern-day cotton field and other issues such as BLM and the overzealousness of Fox News.
The video for “Mass Media” is directed by Trevor Lang, who utilizes the power of Chappell’s sharply written rhymes to carry the experience from one topic to the next. It strays from the usual performance shots and focuses mainly on what could be called where the world has gone wrong. Different scenes from riots, prison work details, and more are spliced and seamlessly layered to present a spider web of events that have helped shape the US and the rest of the world for better or worse.
