Rarely do I see an idea undertaking so fleshed out as MZG, brief for “monozygotic,” made up of similar twins Zach and Charles Weinert. Their new EP known as Cell Division is one other clear instance of a theme made actual, particularly when you think about the monitor titles therein are all named after precise phases of cell division.
Near to the tip is “Anaphase,” the blistering retro/future lure tune representing the fourth out of 5 phases of cell division. Beginning with a sequence of claps and a fundamental melody, the lead synth grows in depth till the drop when it’s all unleashed. The form of LoFi drop makes for a really retro sounding environment whereas the drums nonetheless preserve it geared towards extra trendy tempos. The result's an odd amalgam of sounds, not not like… anaphase cell division.
