No, Claressa Shields Didn’t Say She Confronted Remy Ma and Punched Her Over Papoose Drama

Prior to contrary belief, Claressa Shields did not fight Remy Ma.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist has been swept into a false rumor after a newly viral video was edited to make it seem she claimed to have punched rapper Remy Ma.

The clip, which gained traction on Wednesday (August 13), is actually an edited version of a heated April 2024 video where Shields recalled a heated, ringside encounter with rival Alycia Baumgardner in Las Vegas.

“Come fight me, please,” Shields says at the six-minute mark as seen in the video linked above. “This will be a Flint, [Michigan] versus Ohio [fight]. Y’all, she not from Detroit. “I don’t care how many pairs of buffs she got—she ain’t from Detroit.”

Remy Ma, who is from the Bronx, New York, was never mentioned in the video.

“You don’t even know what smoke is, baby … I’m from Flint, baby. Quit playing with me. I ran up on that hoe,” Shields said further into the clip. ”She wanna talk about that shit, fight me. I wanted to see what it was like with that face-to-face conversation because that’s what I’m about.”

She continued, “You wanna do all that tweeting, baby? I’m about this. You’re right, we do just need to fight. We do. Yes, come to 54 so I can show you what’s up.

“… I ain’t even mean to put my hands on that girl. Lord, I have to catch myself, but she started putting her hand on my face … You’re mad that you met that you met your match, and that’s OK, cause I’m gonna give you what you want every time. Now what?”

Shields, 30, is currently dating Remy Ma’s estranged husband Papoose, 47, and recently announced she wants to have a child with him in 2026.

“I don’t want to wait till I’m, you know, 40, 43, whatever, after my career, to have my kids,” Shields said on The Pivot podcast. “I want to be able to run at the park with my kids and stuff like that. I don’t want to be too old.”

The couple went public with their relationship in December 2024, which left many questioning the timing of their relationship.

“[You make] it seem like I’m somebody that came in and disrupted a happy household when I didn’t,” she said elsewhere on the podcast. “That’s not what happened.”

She also dismissed any speculation of supposed beef with Remy Ma, calling the idea of fighting over a man “a stupid narrative.”

“I just left New Jersey. When I was at the fights in New York, I was with him. We always together,” Shields said at the time. “We’re always connected. So it’s not like we’re fighting over a man or anything like that. Like, that’s a stupid narrative. I’m a grown ass woman and I’m a good-looking woman who’s successful. I don’t got to fight over no man.”
