NLE Choppa's rap dreams have taken farther than he could've ever imagined. The Memphis native broke into the mainstream on the back of the piano-driven "Shotta Flow," which hit the Hot 100back in May. Choppa closes out his banner year by paying homage to his roots with the release of his Cottonwood EP on Friday (Dec. 20).
It's deeper than just the street he grew up on, as you'll find "Cottonwood" inked across the 17-year-old's forearm. The nine-track EP is kept mainly feature-free and includes the CashMoneyAP-produced "Side." Choppa even salutes N.W.A. with track six named after the West Coast gangster rap pioneers.
“I made this project for my fans," Choppa explains in a statement to Billboard regarding the brash project's inspiration. "It's about the street I was born on and each one of these songs means a lot to me. I chose each one to be on this and I hope my fans enjoy it.”
NLE drives his point home with the release of the cinematic Cottonwood film, which finds him narrating his come up and taking fans directly to the very East Memphis blocks he used to run around as a youngster.
With Instagram deleting his account, Choppa is encouraging fans to follow his TikTok and Snapchat @NLEChoppaMusic, where he'll be promoting the project and interacting with fans.
