nightly’s acoustic video for “the movies” is an ode to self-isolation [Premiere] –
nightly‘s song “the movies” is a soft dreamscape that brings to mind long car-drives in deep sunsets with the wind in your hair and someone on your mind. With the addition of the ethereal vocals of Charli Adams, it becomes an instant classic, and it only makes sense that the video brings that feeling to life.
The visual for the song is simple: nightly’s Jonathan Capeci and Charli Adams share a split-screen singing gently into the camera, but it has a sense of togetherness even though they’re apart. It’s a form of intimacy that we’ve all adapted to now that Zoom calls are the new hangouts. Capeci tells us in an email, “I think in time though, we’ll look back and it’ll be a little time capsule of this crazy era we’re in, and how it didn’t stop us from making music.”
The loneliness and longing in the song are amplified by the stripped-down music in the background, transporting us to a place we can’t wait to go and faces we can’t wait to see again. While “the movies” is a song meant to take you to another place, it also cements us where we are right now when we can only use our minds to getaway.
Nightly is comprised of cousins Jonathan Capeci and Joey Beretta, and drummer Nick Sainato. The band has made a name for themselves with their signature alt-pop sound. Their 2016 debut EP featured their song “XO,” which quickly garnered over 9-million streams. They’ve supported The Struts, K. Flay, and The Night Game on tour and just came off their debut headlining tour supporting their highly-anticipates second EP, The Sound Of Your Voice.
