Nicki Minaj Apologizes for Kicking Photographer’s Camera, Believing She Was Being Inappropriately Filmed
Nicki Minaj issued an apology to a photographer after knocking over his camera on stage during a show.
While performing in San Antonio on Thursday (Sept. 19), Minaj went over and kicked a camera out of a photographer’s hands during a moment when she thought he was trying to film her from an inappropriate angle. In the video, the photographer says, “Ow that’s me! No!” before his camera goes flies out of his hands.
Minaj posted the clip online with the caption, “This is one of the craziest things we’ve ever captured. Yall plz look at this.”
A short while later, Minaj explained the full situation in a post shared to Instagram — apologizing to the photographer Grizz, who’s actually one of her “fave ppl in all the land.” Apparently, she thought he was a Peeping Tom so she attacked his camera.
“Grizz my apologies I love you,” reads the caption underneath the post.
In the rest of the post, she shared how much she loved the show. “You are beautiful. In every way. If you only knew how bright you shine through,” the rapper wrote in a message to the patrons that came out that night. “I’ll never forget this night. For the rest of my life. Wishing God’s divine blessings on each & every person who came out to support.”
Minaj may have cleared the air with her photographer, but she doesn’t have the same energy for recently laid off music industry officials from Atlantic Records. She posted on X, “Dear fired executives & A&R’s: Don’t be mad, UPS is hiring.”
Minaj also directed them to apply to work at her own label — but with that tone directed at them, it’s highly unlikely that she’s serious.
Earlier this month, Minaj voiced her opinion about next year’s Super Bowl Halftime show in New Orleans having Kendrick Lamar perform instead of Lil Wayne. “One n***a took a knee. The other n***a took the bag,” she posted, appearing to reference Colin Kaepernick. “He gon get you ‘n*****s’ in line every fkng time. … Got everything in the world. Still spiteful & evil. Disgusting. Be happy Abeg. Go be fang happy n***a!!!!! In rap business. In women business. When you got the politicians & the police you good tho. Plus dat ugly laugh taffy alien.”
She later calmed down and paid respects to both Wayne and Kendrick. “You can love & respect Kendrick and still love & respect Wayne. Even Kendrick loves & respects Wayne,” she wrote. “Every real rapper loves & respects Wayne.”
