NGAIIRE shares visuals for “Him” [video]
After dropping the visually gripping single, “Closer,” some weeks back, Sydney-based future soul artist/songwriter NGAIIRE releases her final single, “Him,” alongside a video to match. The track continues her string of dark and soulful releases and showcases her penchant for penning profound and relatable lyrics. Over a dynamic and somber production, the singer pens an ode to love within despair and the inner tenacity of holding on to hope when one is engulfed by darkness. Her vocals are bolstered by pained emotions and evocative lyrics that search for a silver lining to help ease the pain. The track is a collaboration between her and producer Jack Britten who also helps with the writing.
The self-directed visual blends moody cinematic lighting, a myriad of performance shots, and an expressive text motif that runs through the entire length of the shot. Shot in Awabakal Country where its exotic landscapes lend their strengths and augment NGAIIRE’s grand costumes and expressive performance style. The use of different colors and grading effects also makes it quite enticing as it varies the dynamics from high fidelity to retro-VHS degraded aesthetics.
The Papua New Guinean/Australian artist has released two previous albums; neo-soul Lamentations and pop-soul Blastoma. “Him” is taken from her third LP entitled 3. The LP is scheduled for release on the 27th of August via Majestic Casual. You can pre-order it here.
