Mr Ekow pays tribute to the classics on "I Am Hip Hop" –
London emcee Mr Ekow brings a refreshing vibe to the forefront on his new track “I Am Hip Hop.” Backed by the jazz-infused boom-bap production from Grammy-nominated producer Ian Green, the rapper proceeds to mark his territory in the game as one to watch. He gives the listener a mix of bravado, insightful bars peppered with some humor to keep things grounded. It is obvious Mr Ekow has done his homework and as a staunch student of the culture, he uses the song as a metaphor for his personal musical journey. Always showing respect, Mr Ekow carries the flame from past and present legends into the new decade.
For the visuals, the London rapper takes a nostalgic trip through several classic hip-hop music videos. He recreates scenes from the ’90s up through the present as we see his own rendition of videos from Missy Elliott, ATCQ, Tyler the creator, to even Kanye West amongst others. The music video was shot, directed and edited by Matt Bowie who painstakingly recreates the iconic scenes with such detail from the costumes (assisted by Cheryl Fianko) to the performance as well. Visually it’s quite colorful and shows the fun side of things as Mr Ekow is having a blast re-living and paying homage to the videos of the legends that inspired him.
