Meek Mill Recalls Seeing Man Throw a Kitten to Pit Bulls as a Child: ‘Had to Wake Up to My Reality’
Meek Mill says he woke up to his “reality” when witnessing an act of animal abuse as a child. During the impactful incident, per Meek, he witnessed a kitten—his own, in fact—being thrown over a gate.
In an update shared to X over the weekend, Meek, who earlier this month refuted a viral claim of having been extorted for tens of thousands of dollars, relayed a story stemming from when he was eight years old. At the time, Meek explained, he had just gotten a “new kitten” and was showing it to an older man when the individual in question, said to have been known as “Davoe,” tossed the young cat to a pair of dogs.
“I always tell the story of me showing some older guy name ‘Davoe’ my new kitten when I was like 8 years old,” Meek said on X on Sunday, as seen below. “He threw it over the gate to 2 red nose pits and laughed at me! I was like sheeessshhh but had to wake up to my reality!”
Meek, born and raised in Philadelphia, did not elaborate further on the incident, though it’s clear it’s left a sustaining impact on him. The Dream Chasers Records founder has frequently stepped up for his hometown over the years, including just over a year ago with his publicly announced plan to put a portion of his music earnings toward gun violence prevention efforts.
More recently, he expressed support for raising minimum wage in Pennsylvania following a public plea from Governor Josh Shapiro to raise it to $15 an hour. When showing his support for this long-overdue change, Meek highlighted the spike in egg prices as an example of why we “need” to see higher wages.
As for new music, Meek most recently joined Fridayy on the track “Proud of Me,” ultimately landing him his latest debut within the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
