Meek Mill Comments on DJ Akademiks’ Reported Twitch Suspension
Meek Mill has weighed in on DJ Akademiks reportedly being banned from Twitch.
The rapper shared his thoughts about Akademiks on X after reposting another account claiming that the streamer was banned from the platform. “He gone be drinking tonight screaming at kids from some other portal lol,” wrote Meek. “[T]hese guys lives be terrible ‘NEVER FOLLOW THE HEATHENS.’”
The Philly rapper’s comments come after Akademiks himself confirmed on a livestream that he was banned from Twitch. “We’re suspended on Twitch,” he wrote. “The other entities that has been aligned with me, or we have done business together, all that remains the same.”
On the same stream, Akademiks also suggested that he doesn’t want to talk about the situation anymore. “Whatever y’all want to think is whatever y’all want to think — but the show goes on,” he added.
It’s worth noting that an Akademiks-affilated page has issued a statement saying that the Twitch suspension is temporary and over an incident involving Adin Ross, who was also previously banned from the streaming platform. “Akademiks temporarily banned on twitch for calling Adin Ross (who is permanently banned on twitch) on stream to confirm if he donated $10,000 to Kendrick Lamar cousin parents who needed hospital beds and a new wheelchair,” reads the tweet. Akademiks was reportedly banned from Twitch last October after hosing Ross on his stream.
Akademiks seemingly got in trouble after asking 15-year-old streamer about his sex life and offering to send exotic dancers to his house. After experiencing backlash for the insensitive and inappropriate conversation, he addressed his misconduct on stream.
“I’ve done a lot of bullshit up in this game,” he said. “Trust me. I’ve got mine off. This issue aside—which, again. I am wrong. I will be better. This is a teachable moment.”
“For me, obviously, I got to watch my speech,” he continued. “That’s clear. Definitely a regrettable moment, and we’re going to use it as a teachable moment. Because I don’t think I’ve came this far, built this platform, to be that irresponsible, right?”
Freddie Gibbs also acknowledged Ak’s reported Twitch ban with a message on X, simply writing, “Damn.”
Meek previously caught wind of Akademiks’ comments on Monday (Jan. 27) and warned parents against letting their kids engage with his content. “If your a parent go get ya kids phone and block this man he’s grooming children with a very large platform that ‘kids’ like… also attempts to ruin black families and black success daily ‘VILLAN IN THE VILLAGE,'” Meek wrote.
