Master P Calls for Lil Wayne to Perform at Super Bowl Halftime Show With Kendrick Lamar
Master P is calling for Kendrick Lamar to include Lil Wayne in his halftime show at next year’s Super Bowl LIX.
The former rapper congratulated Lamar for doing next year’s show on Instagram, then acknowledged that fans want to see Lil Wayne there too since the latter is from there. “Salute to @kendricklamar for performing at the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX.. well deserved, he’s one of the hottest music artists in the world and has one of the biggest songs right now,” wrote Master P.
“As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans, I have to agree with the fans that @liltunechi #LilWayne should be a part of this celebration as well,” Master P continued. “He’s one of the greatest Hip Hop artists alive, still relevant, and he’s a New Orleans native. Let’s not miss this cultural moment in the South. Life is too short! We have to give our legends their flowers while they are here.”
Lamar announced earlier today (Sept. 8) that he’ll be performing at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.
In the teaser announcement that he shared on social media, he seemingly addressed Drake’s tease of wanting to go for another round in the beef. “Only one opportunity to win a championship,” said Lamar in the video. “No round twos.”
In a statement released with the news, Kendrick Lamar highlighted how important hip-hop is. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date, and I’ll be there to remind the world why,” he said. “They got the right one.”
Speaking about the opportunity in a statement, Jay-Z said of Lamar, “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
While the world is generally excited about Lamar’s show, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm — especially when an artist like Lil Wayne is from the city that the Super Bowl will be taking place. The rapper’s longtime engineer and friend, Fabian Marasciullo, shared on his Instagram story that he was “confused” along with “disappointed, angry, but most of all, inspired.”
“Will never again be in a position or have the GOAT [Lil Wayne] in a position where we are at the mercy of someone else’s decision,” he continued. “We will make the decisions.”
