Marsal and De Gueltzl’s release illustrated “Redemption Song” video for Bob Marley’s 75th –

In honor of Black History Month, artists Octave Marsal and Theo De Gueltzl co-directed a commemorative video celebrating what would have been Bob Marley‘s 75th birthday. The artists took 2474 individual hand drawings and synced them to Marley’s “Redemption Song” at a 12 frames per second rate. A mesmerizing scene opens up. The idea behind the piece was to create the imaginary world of Bob Marley. Images were inspired by his homeland of Jamaica and using insights from his family. Marsal says, “From the history of Slavery and Jamaica, Rastafarian culture, legacy of prophets (Haile Selassie the 1st, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X), as well as Bob’s personal life, we take the audience on a journey through allegories and representations.”
