Margolnick re-discovers his sense of self with “Watch Me” [Video]
We all at some point or another have wanted to prove our doubters wrong. Well Margolnick is telling those with little faith to look out. “Watch Me” is an upbeat single with vibrant beats and infectious falsetto. The track also represents his powerful path to sobriety. The release evokes vibes of Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still” yet possesses a style all his own. The accompanying video offers creative depictions of the negative voices he constantly hears around him. All the hands rubbing his face might be a symbol of the people who try to hold him down.
Nashville-based indie/alt talent Margolnick aka Drake Margolnick knows what it is like to start fresh. Once controlled by his addiction to alcohol, now he has a renewed authenticity. That personal journey is a huge part of his music. Margolnick spent many years performing with his band Flagship. Deciding to go solo meant he had to begin again, but it was through that decision he really discovered his voice. In “Watch Me” there is an honesty that rings true with each note. The singer reveals, “The song is about many things. There is an element of rebellion in the first verse, not wanting to be controlled, a refusal to follow the script that I am expected to follow. Sobriety allowed me to materialize the hopes and dreams of my younger self. The song embodies that renewed spirit of saying 'watch me,' when people say you can’t do a thing…you can’t make it in music”…'watch me.'"
