Lil Durk’s Father Claims Rapper Helped 13 Inmates Convert to Islam While Behind Bars
Lil Durk is apparently helping fellow inmates convert to Islam.
While the rapper awaits trial at a Los Angeles detention center, his father, Dontay Banks, recently shared on the Breakfast Club that Durk has been using his time behind bars to be a positive influence to others while staying grounded in his faith.
“As a human, you sitting in there looking at four walls … it’s gonna have this effect on you but you know you always bounce back, you always look at the greater picture,” said Banks near the 21-minute mark in the video linked above.
“What Allah is doing for us right now, building us to be a better man, is greater than what they trying to do to us and trying to tear us down,” he continued. “[Durk] was telling me that when he came in there was like four Muslims on the block. He said now it’s 17 Muslims on the block, so he in there converting.”
Durk confirmed in a 2018 interview with DJ Vlad that he converted to Islam later in his life.
The rapper is facing charges in a murder-for-hire case involving an alleged plot against Quando Rondo in August of 2022 that instead led to the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson (a.k.a. Lil Pab).
Durk pleaded not guilty and his legal team is seeking to have the case dismissed, claiming that the grand jury was misled into indicting the rapper with false information taken from YouTube “fan pages.”
His trial was postponed earlier this year and will now begin on October 14.
