Lil Baby Says ‘Old Feeling’ Restored With Future, Young Thug Collab

The magic of new Lil Baby track “Dum, Dumb and Dumber” came in the form of his reunion with Young Thug.

The Atlanta rapper spoke to Complex’s Jordan Rose for a new digital cover story and detailed that the collaboration happened shortly after Thug’s release from jail in November. The rapper was involved in the YSL Records trial, the longest case in Georgia’s history, and pleaded guilty to gang, gun, and drug charges.

But as Lil Baby explained, Thug returned to the studio without missing a beat.

“It might’ve been our second or third day in the studio since Young Thug had been home. Everybody was in the studio,” he told Complex. “We got food, we got chefs coming and bringing us everything. Malls coming to us, we got them bringing us clothes. It is like that old feeling again, like when I first came home.”

Lil Baby has been to prison multiple times, his first two-year bid being at 19 years old for probation violation.

“On my first day when I got out, I think Thug was in London, and in three days they came back from London,” he continued. “As soon as they came back, I went to the studio with them. I wasn’t rapping or nothing, but I got that same feeling, that same energy.

“Everybody was at the studio. And now it’s the same thing for Thug. I’m one of the ones happy to see him. Glad he came home. Everybody gave him gifts, everybody uplifting him, trying to put everything he went through behind him. So it was just great energy. It was like love again.”

Lil Baby revealed that “Dum” wasn’t the first song the duo recorded upon Thug’s release but that having him out “feels amazing.”

“That was a big part of what I was going through in these past two years, too,” he said. “Even though it happened to Thug, I feel like it could have happened to me.”

Lil Baby later shared that he was in the studio with Thug for 10 days, later confirming that he plans to drop joint albums with both the Business Is Business artist and Future, who’s also on “Dum.”

“We’ve been in the studio together [every day] almost since he came home,” Lil Baby said about Thug. “So we got tons of songs. Just that one on WHAM, though. I could have done more. I ain’t want to OD it anyway. I’m the first person to have a Young Thug verse since he’s been out. So I didn’t want to just overdo him anyway.”
