Label Exec Close To Avicii Reveals The State of His Unreleased Music, Details New Album

In the wake of Avicii’s death, has offered up an extremely informative and insightful interview with Geffen Records president Neil Jacobson.

Being that the exec worked closely with the artist up from “Levels” up until the time of his passing, this might be the most thorough understanding we get. Especially pertaining to what he was working on and the future of his unreleased music.

New material was soon to be unleashed, as Jacobson reveals that Avicii had his next album nearly finished. Jacobson claims he even had some collabs on lock and more in the works. He says Avicii was on the verge of releasing his next body of work — with some of his best material in years.

The two were in contact just two days before Bergling’s body was found in a hotel room in Oman. Speaking of which, Jacobson explains it wasn’t out of the ordinary for Avicii to go off the grid and travel to exotic places, especially after long stints in the studio working on new music.

The entire interview is most definitely worth reading, but the couple of questions we’ll share deal specifically with the producer’s unreleased music and what comes next…

What was the status of his next album?

We were working on it and it was his best music in years, honestly. And I know because I A&R’d] all of his albums. He was so inspired. He was so psyched. We had done a month of grinder sessions. We had to actually put end times on the sessions because Tim would just work for 16 hours straight, which was his nature. You had to pull him out. Like, “Tim, come on. Go to bed. Get some rest.” … It’s just a tragedy. We have this incredible, magical music.

So what’s going to happen to the record?

I have no idea. I’m going to sit down and talk to the family once everybody has a chance to take a breath. I’ve never actually had this happen with an artist I’ve worked with before and this closely. So, I don’t know. We’ll try to get some advice from the family and everybody’s going to put their heads together and try and do what we think Tim would want us to do.
