Kid Cudi ‘Didn’t Want’ to Testify Against Diddy But Knows He ‘Did the Right Thing’
In an interview with Anthony Mason for CBS Mornings, Kid Cudi spoke about his decision to testify in the sex trafficking and racketeering trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs.
“How hard was that for you?” Mason asked Cudi about the experience of testifying against Diddy, who he alleged blew up his car because of his romantic involvement with Cassie.
“It was really hard. I didn’t want to do it,” the “Pursuit of Happiness” artist said. “I got subpoenaed. … I just wanted to be there for [Cassie] and help her out.”
Mason asked if it was “strange” to be on the stand during the trial.
“It was weird, man, because that was the first time I had seen him in a while,” Cudi shared. “We made eye contact a couple times. I know I did the right thing, so that’s all that matters.”
Cudi’s testimony made headlines multiple times throughout the trial, and several others testifying that the disgraced Bad Boy Records founder made several violent threats against Cudi.
Diddy’s former employee, Capricorn Clark, alleged that Diddy broke into Cudi’s home after he found out he was dating Cassie and threatened to kill him.
Cudi also spoke about the experience during an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper.
“I hated every minute of it,” he said, noting that he felt “calm” when he first walked into the courtroom. He initially told federal prosecutors he wouldn’t testify, but then he was subpoenaed.
“I was like, ‘Fuck! Shit! No!'” he said.
He said he didn’t consider what he would wear to court until close to his appearance.
“Do I have to be like in a fucking suit or something?” he said. “I was like, ‘Fuck this shit.’ This is what I’m wearing today. I’m going to the fucking shit in this. I’m not dressing up for this shit. Wearing some hard bottoms? I’m wearing some Salomons and I’m coming in there with my Levi’s and my leather jacket, and that’s it.”
He said that he found “peace” in being there to support his ex-girlfriend, who he knew had faced abusive behavior at the hands of Diddy.
“Cassie is my friend. I love her, and I want to see her do well,” Cudi said. “When I saw her get married, I was so happy for her that she found someone, her person. When I saw that she was having kids, I was like, ‘Oh this is so awesome.’ I’ve always just wanted to see her thrive and do well and be happy, because I know she was living a nightmare. I was there to support her.”
