JoJo Siwa Addresses Miley Cyrus Jokingly Saying She’ll ‘Bring Her Back Out’ of the Closet

JoJo Siwa addressed her mixed feelings about a recent “closet” joke made by Miley Cyrus.

In a lengthy posted shared to her Instagram on Thursday (June 12), the 22-year-old shared photos of herself having a Miley-themed birthday party at age five, posing with Cyrus herself, and other snapshots wearing looks inspired by the Bangerz singer.

“If you know me, you know that miley is my day 1, grew up beyond inspired by her from 2 years old on… I wasn’t sure how I felt about things for a couple of days… but I’ve started to come to some thoughts,” Siwa wrote.

“I don’t believe what Miley said at world pride was ill intended, honestly I think it was meant to be a joke, but just not very good one haha,” she added. “Not what the world, or myself needs to hear anyday of the week. I messaged miley light heartedly about it and she replied and said ‘All love. Always . ❤️❤️❤️’”

Cyrus’ joke came during a video segment at the WorldPride festival in Washington, D.C. last weekend.

In the video clip, Cyrus emerges from a closet saying, “Oh my god, I haven’t been in there since the sixth grade. Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride is the time for you,” before later adding, “Alright, I’m going back in to get some more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out.”

The joke implied that Siwa, who came out as pansexual in 2021, had somehow returned to the closet and left the LGBTQ community after confirming her relationship with 32-year-old Celebrity Big Brother UK co-star Chris Hughes earlier this month.

The “Karma” singer and nonbinary partner Kath Ebbs, 27, called it quits in April.

“I’ve dated beautiful women, I’ve dated beautiful nonbinary people, I have dated men… but I realize that’s just who I am. I realize for myself that I just like humans,” Siwa told Billboard about her sexuality earlier this month.

JoJo Siwa is set to embark on her 2025 summer concert tour, beginning on July 10 in Houston with stops in other major cities including New York City and Los Angeles.

The tour made headlines after the singer announced a $900 VIP package that allows fans to “help JoJo put together the show with song selection input.”
