John Forté returns with new single/video “Ready on the One” [Video]

Veteran songwriter and producer John Forté's history can be defined as a mix of grand successes and turbulence. From working on the multi-platinum selling album The Score by The Fugees in 1996, to releasing his own charting debut Poly Sci in 1998 and his infamous legal issues in early 2000 and consequent incarceration. Forté went through a myriad of changes and in some ways left mainstream music being fully indie and self-dependent. The Brooklyn native is now ready for a new adventure as he presents his latest effort titled "Ready on the One" which sees him teaming up with producer Preservation, rappers Spills, Five, and a spoken chorus by Miss Brittany Reese.

The guitar-driven track does away with heavy drums in favor of soft percussions and handbells to induce a somber and nostalgic aesthetic. This sets the stage for Forté's sharp lyricism that sees him reflecting on his own struggles and his journey to where he is now. The man still sounds like he never left and the hunger in his performance only stamps his OG status further. Fellow emcees Spills and Five give their own account with bravado-laden and evocative raps that compare and contrast life within and away from the dark streets.

The visuals created by Brandshop are shot in a DIY/documentary format that follows Forté from his cannabis garden in Martha’s Vineyard to his hometown of Brooklyn. It's filled with a mix of performance shots, expressive choreography, and beautiful shots of the scenery of the summer colony.
