J. Cole’s Producer Says ‘The Fall Off’ Is ‘Top Level Rapping’
J. Cole’s upcoming album The Fall Off is “top-level rapping” and “top-level storytelling” according to producer DZL.
Complex recently spoke with DZL at Dreamville Fest Public Access about working on J. Cole’s long-awaited album. “It’s Cole in his bag,” said DZL. “Top tier raps, top-level rapping, top-level storytelling. This project is going to give people a deeper insight into him as a man, him as a human being, him as a father, and him as a husband.”
“I think he’s mysterious and stays out of the public eye, away from the spotlight,” DZL continued. “This album is going to give more of an insight into who he is and it’s really incredible — top to bottom no skips. I really can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
J. Cole’s been pretty quiet on when The Fall Off is supposed to come out. Back in January, the rapper hopped onto his The Algorithm blog to address speculation since people thought him posting on it meant that the album was about to come out.
“Ib told me some people was thinking this blog meant an album was about to drop,” Cole wrote. “Nahhh. Not exactly. when it’s time for something you will know. This is not that. I just wanted a place to share documentaries I be watching on YouTube and songs I f—k with.”
“Thank you to everybody for the love today in the form of the comments, the chat and all the texts I got that I’m trying to reply to while also spending time with family and friends. I do appreciate it. This was the anthem for the day. For reallllll,” he added.
Back in December, J. Cole seemingly hinted that the album would come out before the Dreamville Festival. During a show at Madison Square Garden, J. Cole said, “I’ll see y’all at Dreamville Festival. Hopefully, I’ll have something new to perform for y’all.”
