iLoveMakonnen Once Again Announces Retirement From Music, Calls “Heavy in the Streets” His ‘Last Song’

iLoveMakonnen has seemingly announced his retirement from making music.

The rapper shared a message to his Instagram page in which he revealed that he was taking a step away from being a musical artist. The wording, however, makes it seem like he could return someday in the future under a different name.

“I am retiring ilovemakonnen,” he wrote. “Thank you all for ur support and interests over the years. It’s time I go move on and go live my life. Heavy in the streets is my last song.”

A week ago, we caught up with iLoveMakonnen to talk about the ten-year anniversary of his breakout song, “Tuesday.” He explained how it came about from a freestyle in the studio.

“I was in the room at an Ear Drummers studio, and it was a producer, Mars, with Ear Drummers, and Rae Sremmurd was there when they was still up and coming,” said iLoveMakonnen. “Mike WiLL was, like, gone in LA working with Miley Cyrus and stuff.” And so I got to go up to the house, on the northside of Georgia, which is probably 50 minutes away from my area on the south side. And so we drove up there, and we was just playing around and making shit. And then it was like Monday night. I was just freestyling about it.”

“And then everybody was fucking with it, because it was really, like, it was dope,” he continued. “Because it was like, ‘Wow, it really is Monday night. Now it’s Tuesday morning here.’ I just spit my little life about my life, you know what I mean?

iLoveMakonnen also expressed how he felt about dealing with the fame that came from the smash hit, “Tuesday.”

“It was just a lot to experience all in real time, and then I got introduced to LSD and psychedelics,” he explained. “Now I’m going on these whole internal journeys, as well as this whole physical new journey. And I’m dealing with, what they considered overweight, and not attractive, all this and that.”

Back in 2016, iLoveMakonnen suggested that he was retiring from making rap music. Although he would continue to release work, he posted a message at the time, writing, “Rap game Wack, everyone flexed up except Makonnen, that’s why I’m retiring. Lol this so good…The game don’t need Me, the game need more like me , more that will be themselves and not afraid like everyone else! It’s all love…It’s ok guys, u have me until [20]17.”
