Tragedy nearly struck the Gorillaz last night, as a night of drinking at the pub almost lost Damon Albarn his next project.
According to The Mirror, Albarn, the lead vocalist and musical brain behind the cartoon band, Gorillaz, was spending a fun night drinking at the Groucho Club in London, but caused a panic after he left his laptop in the taxi on his ride home. The laptop happened to contain all the masters for his next Gorillaz album, which is set to drop sometime in the near future.
"It was a disaster. Damon oversees everything and, with Gorillaz, it’s not just audio – it’s the expensive visuals as well," said one source. "The laptop’s contents are priceless."
Thankfully, the taxi driver realized the mistake that Albarn had made, and ended up returning the laptop to him. Good news for Gorillaz's fans.
While details on the new album are scarce, sources say that the tone will be very politically charged, and will reflect Albarn's anger over the result of the Brexit vote in Britain to separate from the European Union. While the album could potentially drop as early as next month, we've already gotten a sneak previewof a potential song, which features none other than Snoop Dogg.
It's understandable that Albarn might want to avoid leaks in the lead up to his new album, but maybe he should leave the computer at home next time if he plans to go out drinking again, just in case the worst should happen.
