G Herbo Asks Who J Dilla and Madlib Are, Internet Reacts: “Don’t Kill Me’

G Herbo has received a hip-hop lesson from what some might deem to be an unexpected source.

During a recent appearance on The Adam Friedland Show, the Chicago rapper played a quick game of this-or-that. The eponymous host presented the names of two rappers, and G Herbo had to select which of the artists he preferred.

“Lets do the classic: 2Pac or Biggie?” Friedland began.

“2Pac,” G Herbo replied. “I’m gonna go with 2Pac.”

“Really?” the host asked. “OK. Atlanta: Gucci Mane or Jeezy?”

G Herbo insisted he was a fan of both artists, but was particularly fond of the former.

“I’m going Wop, though. I grew up with Gucci… My whole upbringing was Gucci,” he explained, adding he has met Gucci “100 times.” “My homie, GFazo, his favorite rapper was Gucci Mane. That’s how I really got up on Gucci.”

The game was going pretty smoothly until the third round, when Friedland asked G Herbo to pick between frequent collaborators J Dilla and Madlib.

“Or is that a white question?” the host asked.

“Um, that was a white question,” the rapper joked. “I don’t… Hey, don’t kill me nobody. Who are they?”

The response clearly amused Friedland and his behind-the-scenes crew.

“Well, let me tell you about hip-hop culture. Herb, let me explain to you…” Friedland joked. “No, they’re like two incredible —

“What do they do, though?” G Herbo asked.

“Those are the best producers ever,” Friedland explained.

G Herbo asked to hear the names again, presumably hoping they would ring a bell the second time.

“J Dilla or Madlib? You know Quasimoto? You know Madvillainy?” Friedland asked.

G Herbo said he “of course” heard of Quasimoto — Madlib’s animated alter ego with a high-pitched voice.

“I’m gonna go with Madlib then,” he said.

“It’s the right answer. Dilla died, and it’s very sad, but it’s the right answer,” Friedland continued. “Just ’cause you’re dead doesn’t mean you win… I’m sorry that I said that.”

The exchange, of course, garnered a mix of online reactions, with some criticizing G Herbo for not knowing who J Dilla was, while others applauded Friedland for dropping knowledge on the Swervo rapper.

“Adam teaching G Herbo about J Dilla and Madlib wasn’t on my bingo card,” one fan wrote, “But even Madlib would say the answer will always be J Dilla.”

“Tupac over biggie and doesn’t know madlib lol COOL,” another user commented.

“Damn not knowing J Dilla as a rapper is pretty sad….” a third person added.
