Fabolous’ 2004 Hit ‘Breathe’ Gets Platinum Certification
One of Fabolous’ hits just reached a major milestone.
Nearly 20 years after its release, Fab’s 2004 single “Breathe” was certified platinum on Wednesday by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The association awards platinum certification to singles and albums that sell one million units in the United States.
“Breathe,” produced by Just Blaze and taken from Fab’s 2004 Real Talk album, peaked at No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and stayed on the chart for 16 weeks.
The 47-year-old rapper reflected on the track in an interview for Carmelo Anthony and Mero’s 7PM in Brooklyn podcast in October.
Fab explained that he released “Breathe” to avoid being typecast as an artist that only made radio-friendly songs tailored to women, such as his past hits like “Can’t Let You Go” and “Trade it All” with Jagged Edge.
“You had to make those songs to get on radio … That’s where ‘Breathe’ came from: I’m going too far one way, and it might get to a point where people don’t even know you even rap, or don’t even put you in the category,” he said on the podcast.
