Erykah Badu Jokes About Child Support When Asked If André 3000 Is Better Than Black Thought
Erykah Badu was put in the hot seat when asked to decide who was the better rapper between André 3000 and Black Thought.
The Abi & Alan artist was a guest on the August 30 episode of Drink Champs, where she had to choose between The Roots frontman and 3000, with whom she shares her oldest child, a son, Seven Sirus Benjamin, 27.
“Now you’re messing with my child support,” Badu joked before adding that she thought the crew would have her pick between “two of the baby daddies.”
“Black Thought, you know I got love,” Badu said about her “You Got Me” collaborator. “But I think I may be one of Andre 3000’s biggest fans outside of being family. Super inspiring.”
The Dallas native acknowledged that deciding between the better rhymer would be “hard” but still sided with the New Blue Sun artist.
“Of course, I’m gonna have to say I say Andre. I follow him a little bit tighter than I do Tariq,” she continued. “I lean more toward the creative side of art and I am inspired so much by that. So I’m going to have to say 3000.”
Elsewhere on the episode, Badu said that she used to go by ‘Apples’ as an emcee and that she’d be up for one day dropping a rap album.
“I would, but you know, if you’re an MC, you got to keep up with the weather,” she said. “You got to It’s a [current]. There’s a feeling.”
Badu was later asked to choose between Jay Electronica, whom she also has a child with, and Jay-Z. The rappers collaborated on Electronica’s 2020 album A Written Testimony.
